Plant Information
Prehistoric Palms
These are not actually a palm, but a cycad. Cycads formed an extensive portion of the flora in the time of the dinosaurs. There is no doubt herbivorous dinosaurs grazed contentedly among these plants. The dinosaurs disappeared, however, and so did most of the cycads – except for a few incredibly resilient species that still exist today. They are now referred to as living fossils, for they have remained virtually unchanged, and give us a glimpse into a long-distant past. 
These plants have beautiful leaf colors, from light green, to sage, to blue-gray, they can live to be 1,500 years old and eventually achieve a trunk height of 10 feet.

Prehistoric Ferns
What do ferns and dinosaurs have in common? They were both present in the Mesozoic era. Ferns are one of the oldest living things dating back 300 million years ago! Unlike the dinosaurs, the ferns escaped extinction and thrive in their natural habitats or in landscaped gardens on every continent in the world. These full, lush plants are not actually ferns though, but members of the lily family (Liliaceae). Their long, arching stems are densely covered with short, needle-like leaflets giving the plants a delicate appearance.

Prehistoric Pines
Before the evolution of flowering plants dinosaurs ate things like pine needles, ferns and cycads. This pine would have been a tasty snack for any dinosaur tall enough to reach it! The Austrian Pine is an extremely tolerant pine of adverse soil conditions and air pollution.
The Austrian Pine is a native of Austria, northern Italy and Yugoslavia. They have thrived for over 200 years in some of the worst soil and climate conditions America has to offer.

Plant Information
The famous and fascinating Venus Fly Trap forms a hinged trap that typically has a number of little triggers on the inside of each half. The coloration and scent of the open traps attracts their prey. When the same hair trigger is touched twice or another one is touched, the trap quickly slams shut. The cilia, or little fingers on the outside edge of the trap, quickly close and lock together to form unescapable doors. Digestive enzymes secreted within the trap decompose the soft parts of the insect’s body for digestion. The trap will open again in a week or two to capture another meal. Only the soft parts of the victim’s body are consumed, the skeleton shell is removed by rain or wind activity.

These plants developed this ability to cope with the nutrient poor environment they are native too.  As a result of this, it is important to only water them with distilled water and to not apply fertilizer to them. Flytraps are perennials that can live for decades and their traps increase in size each year, when they return after a rather brief cold period.

Mosses are some of the oldest plants on Earth, dating back over 450 million years. They have been around since before the time of dinosaurs!

Mosses can be found almost everywhere on Earth. From the freezing Arctic to the scorching deserts, mosses have adapted to thrive in diverse environments.

Mosses are highly efficient at retaining water. Some mosses can hold up to 20 times their dry weight in water, allowing them to survive in arid conditions and rehydrate quickly after dry periods.

Mosses are incredibly resilient. When exposed to extreme environmental conditions, they can go into a dormant state. Once favorable conditions return, they "resurrect" and continue their growth as if nothing happened.
